Eason Ramson

Dwight Clark

While he may primarily be known to you as a former member of the World Champion San Francisco 49ers, many of you know neither about the path his life took after football, nor the obstacles he has overcome which enable him to influence people both in words and actions.
After graduating from Washington State University with a sociology degree, in 1978, Eason was drafted into the NFL.  Following his rookie year, in St. Louis, he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers. These five years accounted for the best time in his professional career. Not only was he a starting member of the 49ers’ first Super Bowl Team, he also formed alliances that would ultimately prove to be life saving.  He went on to play for the Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills before retiring in 1987.
Life in the NFL came with many positives as well as negatives. Unfortunately, during his last five years in the NFL, Eason found himself caught up in a fast-paced, wayward lifestyle that mainly constituted drugs, alcohol, and partying.  At the height of his addiction, he supported a $1,000 a day crack cocaine habit. This addiction cost him his self-respect, and relationships with many friends. Most importantly, it cost him the bond that he promised himself, as a child, he would have with his children. A bond Eason’s father and he never had. In addition to this, he lost every material possession he’d worked all his life to acquire.  All that remained were memories and a Super Bowl Ring.  Fortunately, a bail bondsman recognized the course Eason’s life had taken and held on to his Super Bowl Ring for safe keeping.  Although his money and fame were gone, his drug dependence stayed.  Eventually, Eason descended into a life of crime.  This life ultimately lead him be incarcerated in the California Department of Corrections System where he spent close to 10 years of his life going in and out of institutions.
When Eason was released from prison in the fall of 2000, he entered Walden House Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program where he surrendered to a power greater than himself and learned the value of self love. Upon re-entering the real world Eason vowed to rebuild his life, by facing his fears daily, asking for help when needed, and refusing to give-up.
While taking small steps forward daily, Eason went to work as a truancy intervention case manger working with the youth in the San Francisco Unified School District for Ella Hill Hutch Community Center. In addition to this, he worked as a recreational aide at the Western Addition Beacon Center. Soon he was promoted to site manager for the after school programs at the Western Addition Beacon Center.  Offered the opportunity to work with adults at the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department, Eason moved over to the Sheriff’s Department as a Prop 36 case manager in 2003. This position took his talents back into intuitions; however, this time offering personal experience and the resources to nurture change in other human beings.
Currently, Eason is managing a staff of fifteen at Ella Hill Hutch Community Center functioning as the lead for six different youth development programs working with at risk youth in the San Francisco’s Unified School District.
Eason continues to work within San Francisco and other bay area communities as a motivational speaker. He also facilitates workshops that focus on developing positive self-esteem, youth empowerment, the importance of education, and staying away from drugs and alcohol while making positive decisions.
In the Fall of 2000, Eason formed a non-profit organization called Pros and Cons for Kids. The mission of his organization is to implement the type of nurturing support many youth lack.  Eason believes that if an adult with his life experiences had sat him down at an early age and explained the possible consequences of following negative peer-pressure and the importance of positive self-esteem, he may have acquired the tools and coping mechanisms needed to avoid a destructive life of drug abuse and years of self doubt.
Eason is a powerful motivational speaker who brings life experience to the forefront by sharing the challenges of his adolescent years. Eason is passionate about educating youth and his messages are empowering.
In the Fall of 2004, Pros and Cons for Kids and The Northern Chapter of the NFL Alumni implemented a drug and alcohol prevention program at Ralston Middle School in Belmont, California; serving approximately 200 plus youth during the 2004-2006 school years and providing life skills necessary for our youth to say “No” to drugs and alcohol.
As for his personal life, Eason has a daughter, Taylor, who he calls his “Heart Throb!”  With her, Eason is the father that he once promised to be.  And as for his two sons, Eason Jr. and Joshua, Eason is recommitted to repairing the bonds of trust and love that he broke so many times in the past.
