Wendell Tyler

Wendell TylerWendell Tyler believed that he was designed to accomplish great things.  Today, you and I know him as the former premier running back for the San Francisco 49ers.  Wendell held this position for over 10 years, whereas the average running back performs for only 3 years.

He also captured on the of the ultimate highlights of every young boys’ dream – to play and win the Rose Bowl.  The game which featured UCLA verses Ohio State, Wendell ran 57 yards for the winning touchdown.

At the age of 21, he was drafted by the L.A. Rams, accompanied them to the Super bowl, and led the league with 5.1 yards per carry, gaining 1,000 yards.

In 1983, Wendell was traded to the San Francisco 49ers, where he gained 850 yards in 175 carries and caught 34 passes for 360 yards.

During his second year with them, the team mounted a real ground game for the first time in decades, and he broke Delvin William’s single season rushing record of 1,203 yards.

When Tyler gained 1,262 yards for the season and 1,000 of those yards were gained in twelve games, making him the first 49ers running back to do so since Delvin Williams in 1976.   Wendell scored seven touchdowns while averaging 5,1 yards per attempt.   He also had 28 catches for 230 yards and two touchdowns.  He had four games over 100 yards, ranked No. 5 rusher in the NFC was selected to his first Pro Bowl and was on the winning Super Bowl XIX team.

Wendell will discuss the Three D’s: Discipline, Dedication and Determination and over coming obstacles in Life to achieve success.
